Music, Education, Indigenous Australians – Three Areas That I Enjoy Supporting

It was a pleasure to recently supporting the Tura Travellers Rise to the Challenge fundraising event. This was a clever concept, with two events held concurrently, linked via a live video connection, across different regions of Australia. It turned into somewhat of a State of Origin clash between Victoria and Western Australia groups to see who could raise the most Funds.

As to which state won is of little consequence, as the real winner was Tura’s new regional musical program that will focus on bringing education and music to indigenous communities in the Kimberley. The evening was presided over by Western Australia’s Chief Justice Wayne Martin AC and their targeted raised funds of $20,000 was well surpassed with the current total being $31,400.

What this group undertakes combines many of my passions, including education, music and the engagement and support of Australia’s indigenous community. Find out more about this clever, enduring initiative visit http://echo.tura.com.au/

Tura’s Regional Projects promote collaboration and direct involvement with the musicians by participants and audiences. Through the music outreach programs the touring artists engage directly with individuals and groups in the communities, encouraging direct interaction with the musicians and provides access, involvement and active participation with music.

As well as public concerts, The Regional Tour’s community engagement includes school and community workshops and presentations.

The Program makes a significant contribution to the social, cultural, educational and community lives of people living in regional centres and remote communities of northern Australia.
