“Fully understanding nutrition is vital to all our futures. Abundant countries like Australia can lead the world in maximising the fair distribution of nutrition globally, enhancing food literacy, and promoting sustainable production. The question is how, and I look forward to working on some of the answers to these important questions at festival21.”
Peter McMullin, Patron at festival21

I am very proud to be a Patron of festival21, an event that is positioning itself to bring together thought-leaders and innovators with an interested and engaged general public to consider, discuss and support our global future from the perspective of our food.

About festival21

Food is universal and personal. Food brings people together and means something to all of us.

Yet today, the way we grow, process, eat, purchase, and waste food is causing serious harm to our health, our social system, and our planet. The food system contributes a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. The majority of the Australian population now overweight or obese. At the same time, 19 in 20 Australians don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables.

What’s exciting though, is that while food represents some of our greatest challenges, it is also key to overcoming them.

festival21 is a two-day celebration of just that: the potential for food to inspire positive change.

Taking over the Meat Market, festival21 will equip Melbourne with a practical toolkit to make better food choices – via TED-style talks, music, hands-on workshops and demonstrations, and panel discussions. And of course, lots, and lots of food.

Held in Melbourne on the 1-2 February 2019, some of the important information that you need to know:

What to Bring To help us along in this mission, we kindly ask that you bring your favourite mug or handy reusable cup, plus a water bottle along with you.

By doing so, we can eliminate single-use plastic at the festival completely. Vendors will accommodate your mug or cup when purchasing drinks, and water fountains will be available on site. Don’t have a cup or bottle on you? We’ll have KeepCups, along with festival21 tote bags, available for purchase at The Hive.

The festival is a cashless event, so no need to go searching for an ATM before you arrive!

The Program festival21 is made up of both ticketed and non-ticketed events, with multiple sessions running simultaneously throughout the day.

All sessions in The Plenary are ticketed – just show your digital ticket on your phone on your way in. We kindly ask you to keep an eye on the time to ensure you are seated before the session starts. If you are not seated, your spot may be given to someone waiting in the line.

Sessions in The Forum, The Workshop and The Source are ALL non-ticketed and operate on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so please arrive early to guarantee yourself a spot.

We understand that plans change. If you’ve registered for a session but can no longer attend, we kindly ask if you could cancel your tickets before the festival to allow others the opportunity to join us.
