Road To Tour De Timor 2017

I have already written about the wonderful Mountain Biking event recently held in Timor-Leste – The Tour De Timor.

The Tour de Timor is an annual International Mountain Bike Race held in Timor-Leste. The event was first held in 2009 and was an initiative of HE, the former President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, as part of his “Dili – City of Peace” campaign.

For Timor-Leste, sport is not just about exercise with social and health benefits, but it is also a crucial tool in peacebuilding, youth engagement, education, gender equality and economic development. In this way, sporting events like the Tour de Timor are also key to the development of the nation and to the well-being and livelihoods of Timorese.
